Weimar WeimarAround 1800, Weimar was a cultural capital. In this city Goethe produced some of his most famous works, including the final version of Faust. Friedrich Schiller wrote many works in Weimar including his William Tell. Fran Liszt (1811-1886) composed and gave concerts here in the second half of the 19th century.
In 1919, Walter Gropius formed the Bauhaus school of architecture, which sought to overcome the divisions between art, handicraft and technology. The Bauhaus Museum displays many Bauhaus works by leading artists of world fame.
