In 1849 Margarethe Meyer and her sister Bertha met Froebel when he was lecturing about Kindergarten. Bertha spent the next two years opening Kindergartens in Germany before moving to London with her husband, where the Ronges opened the England Infant Garden in Tavistock Place in September 1851.

Bertha Ronge also opened Infant Gardens in Manchester and Leads. Margarethe married Carl Schurz and moved to Watertown, Wisconsin where she opened the first Kindergarten in the United States in 1856.
Maria Boelte was trained by Luise, the widow of Froebel. She taught with the Ronges in London. Together with her husband John Kraus she opened the New York Normal Training Kindergarten, where Susan Blow began her career
