Thuringia Thuringia (Thüringen)

Romantic valleys and wooded low mountain ranges are the hallmarks of the state Thuringia. Its history is turbulent and exciting, it arose from the merger of many smaller kingdoms, whose princely families were also ancestors of the British and Belgian royal houses. Traces of the state's history are found everywhere: along the former trading route Rennsteig, in the lovingly restored towns like the residence town Weimar, state capital Erfurt or the Wartburg in Eisenach. Castles, stately homes, churches, monasteries, parks and residences are cultural monuments of world fame. Thuringia also offers a range of watersports on the reservoirs of the Saale valley, wintersports on 1000 meter mountains, walking and cycling through beautiful woodlands.
